Supermarkets strive for 100% card payment by 2020

VGP – The authorities of Ha Noi have set a goal in which by late 2020, 100% of supermarkets, restaurants, commercial centers, and modern distribution establishments would have deployed non-cash payment systems.

This is part of the Project on non-cash payment development in Ha Noi in the 2018-2020 period.

By late 2020, 85% of electricity, water, telecom providers will accept non-cash payment. Up to 60% of households and individuals will use non-cash payment in purchasing and consumption.

The project also targets to develop new types of payment in rural, far-reaching, and remote areas; increase the number of people to access payment service; and the coverage rate of over 15 year-old-people with bank accounts to 70% in the next two years.

To fulfill the preset goals, the city will implement the following measures including development of electronic payment and retail payment services; public administration services; and provision of instructions and directions on non-cash payment.

The Ha Noi People’s Committee assigned the Ha Noi branch of the State Bank of Viet Nam to work with relev ant departments and agencies, commercial banks to deploy and facilitate non-cash payment for essential services including electricity, water, tuition fees, telecom and cable television fees.

In the coming time, the city will invest in infrastructure and promote electronic payment via the Internet, mobile phones, and cards; arrange and supervise ATM systems with security and safety ensured.

The city will develop card services for customers in rural areas by offering non-cash payment of electricity, water, telecom, cable television fees, tuition fees, agricultural and irrigation fees./.
