Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong on December 9 visited and presented gifts to retired senior military officers in Nam Từ Liêm District, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People Defense Day.

Phong, along with the city's delegation, visited and presented gifts to General Ngo Xuan Lich, former Politburo member, former Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and former Minister of Defense, who is currently retired in My Dinh 2 Ward, Nam Tu Liem District; and to Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, former Deputy Minister of Defense, who is also retired in Cau Dien Ward, Nam Tu Liem District.

During the visits to General Ngo Xuan Lich and Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh and their families, Deputy Secretary Nguyen Van Phong shared that, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of the All-People Defense Day, the city had organized several delegations to visit and encourage high-ranking military officers and veterans who have made significant contributions to the country's defense, development, and the capital.

Phong said that this is an important occasion for the Party, government, and people of Hanoi to express gratitude and respect to the previous generations. It is also a time to educate the younger generation about their responsibility to protect the nation and to appreciate the contributions of their predecessors.

On this occasion, Phong briefly provided an update on Hanoi's economic and social development in 2024. The total state budget revenue for the city is expected to reach approximately VND492,309 billion (US$ 20.3 billion), achieving 120.5% of the target and a 19.6% increase compared to 2023. It is projected that by 2024, the city's total state budget revenue will reach VND500,000 billion ($20.6 billion). 

Along with socio-economic development, the city continues to prioritize social welfare. Currently, 18 out of 30 districts and towns in Hanoi no longer have poor households, and the number of near-poor households has decreased significantly. In 2025, the city's poverty line will be raised above the national average. The city is also focusing on digital transformation and boosting the development of the cultural industry.

Phong stated that this year, Hanoi will continue to implement the key objectives outlined in Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW of the Politburo (13th term) on the "Direction and tasks for the development of Hanoi until 2030, with a vision to 2045."

Notably, the city is now implementing the revised Capital Law and implementing several points from the Hanoi Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision for 2050. The next step will be the comprehensive adjustment of the Hanoi Master Plan until 2045, with a vision for 2065.

Phong acknowledged that the success of the city has always been supported by the contributions of the Vietnam People's Army. The city looks forward to continued support and feedback from the military leaders for the city's activities. He also urged Nam Tu Liem District to regularly organize activities to honor families of policy beneficiaries and war veterans living in the area.

General Ngo Xuan Lich and Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh expressed their gratitude to the city leadership and congratulated them on the socio-economic achievements of 2024. They also praised the attention given by the city's authorities to the Vietnam People's Army stationed in the area.

Both leaders affirmed their commitment to continue participating in and contributing to local activities, working alongside party committees and authorities to build a prosperous, cultured, civilized, and modern Hanoi.
